Members of the Hispanic Week Board held a press conference on Thursday, October 3 to report the state of their finances after finishing the celebrations this year.

Hispanic Week President, Sara Saldana, began giving thanks to the team who made possible that Hispanic Week 2013 had such a successful end. Saldana said that despite the embezzlement of more than $10,000allegedly committed by the previous treasurer, thanks to the teamwork and an honest treasurer, the festivities ended with a positive balance.

Treasurer Rosa Pina, reading the 2013 Financial Report prepared by her as Treasurer, and aided by her assistant, Juanita Saldana, went on to make a summary of income and expenditures which they summed up as a total income of $113,075.08 minus the expenditure of $100,193.44, leaving a balance of $12,881.64.  This balance was reduced by an outstanding debt of $1,450.00 for the year 2011 plus a debt of $9,433.37 for 2012,leaving a profit of $1,998.27, reported Pina.

“Had it not been for the theft, we would have had much more in the bank today,” she said.”  The only things we have not paid are the scholarships to the queens, for which we have organized a dinner dance on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Rio Night Club,” Saldana said.
