Team Haverhill Announces Call to Artists for Bradford Rail Trail Sculptures

Team Haverhill and Pentucket Bank, in partnership with the Friends of the Bradford Rail Trail, announces a call to artists to submit designs for three-dimensional, original sculptures for an outdoor installation to be displayed on the Art Walk at the Bradford Rail Trail, in Haverhill, MA. Submissions must be sent to ArtWalkBRT@teamhaverhill.org on or before February 28, 2015. An artist may submit multiple designs for consideration.

The Bradford Rail Trail is seeking to exhibit original open-air sculptures that engage trail visitors, celebrate the rail trail history and its significance to Haverhill’s development, and provide a space that residents will be proud to visit and enjoy. Submissions should reflect the rich history of Haverhill, specifically, the city’s rail and waterways, based on our theme, “All Aboard.”

To be considered, artists must submit:

  • An artist’s statement, not to exceed 1,000 words.
  • A letter of intent, not to exceed 1000 words, including a description of the idea, how the Bradford Rail Trail’s theme of “All Aboard” will be addressed in the sculpture, and the proposed materials for the sculpture.
  • Up to 3 preliminary design sketches that represent the idea for the project in digital form at a resolution of 300dpi. A maquette of the piece is optional.
  • Up to 7 digital images of past work.
  • An annotated image key, clearly labeled with the artist’s full name and a numerical listing for each image, the title of the work, the media, dimensions, and year of completion.
  • A cost estimate for the final piece, including a list of anticipated materials, and maintenance information for the piece.
  • Current resume.

“It is exciting to see the project move into the next phase as the release of the Call to Artists is a significant milestone for the Art Walk at the Bradford Rail Trail,” said Art Walk at the Bradford Rail Trail Co-Chair Rebecca York. “Team Haverhill and Pentucket Bank are eager to review submissions to see the best of what our creative community has imagined.”

Scott Cote, president of Pentucket Bank, a major sponsor for the Art Walk at the Bradford Rail Trail, agreed, saying, “Pentucket Bank is proud to support this positive effort to enhance the quality of life for Haverhill residents and visitors.  This unique project directly weaves culture and community into the positive growth initiative happening directly across the Merrimack River at One Harbor Place. It’s truly another step in the right direction for the City of Haverhill.”
