Local boxer to fight in Bulgaria

When this issue is circulating, Jesús Flores will be traveling to Colorado where for four weeks will receive training under the banner of Team USA along with 20 other  young men and women who will compete in Bulgaria.  Flores will compete within his heavyweight division with boxers of other nationalities.
Natural of Caguas, Puerto Rico, in early 2010 Jesus began training at the Canal Street Gym with the intention of losing weight.  At 278 pounds, his intention was to become a wrestler, but following the advice of Jose Martinez (better known as Bugzy by his friends) who noticed that his movements were more of a boxer than a wrestler, he began training as a boxer.  Among other bouts, he won the heavyweight title at the New England Golden Gloves Championship in Lowell two years later.
In total, Flores has participated in 30 fights of which he has won 22 by decision. “Up to now, Canal Street Gym has covered all the expenses of Flores’ training,” says Bugsy.  “Luckily for everyone, especially him, Team USA is covering all of Jesus’ expenses in Colorado and Bulgaria, including lodging, food and transportation, otherwise he would not be able to participate and would lose this opportunity, since Canal Street does not receive subsidy from any organization,” said Bugsy.
