Part I
By Jesus Maria Gabin
Making the changes that need to be made in the five sectors of Lawrence Society, means working hard in health, education, sport, housing, and business; but those five sectors of society do not work if there is no security and tranquility around. Crime in Lawrence must be tackled with much more efficiency.
Making the changes that need to be made in the five sectors of Lawrence Society does not mean detracting from those who are in function; on the contrary, we must joint ourselves to the cause.
When we say, we should not detract those who are in function, we mean we should not offend and despise the local authorities for reasons of difference of opinion. It is not the answer to the problems we are facing, but to raise and identify the problems; and then come up with viable, objective solutions so that the next administration can achieve those changes in our city of Lawrence. It is better than anything else or than any negative attitude toward the situation we are all living here.
When we talk about health, we mean the cleanliness or the environment of Lawrence as a city; but we also should talk about mental health.
There are many people in Lawrence families who have lost hope. They feel insecure or frustrated and have no mental health. We have to help them out of that state of frustration, giving them opportunities to change their way of looking at things.
We must bring more education to parents or guardians out there through programs oriented on positive mental attitude so that they can have successes in this great nation and take advantage of the American dream which is stopped pursuing as soon as they lose hope.
We need to implement more sports and entertainment for our entire population here in Lawrence. This is because we understand that a healthy body and healthy mind are indispensable.
We have to work with housing authorities to expedite or accelerate the process of locating our people on the waiting list.
We understand that all sectors are important; but the business sector plays a preponderant role in Lawrence; because that is where jobs emerge. We need more jobs.
In crime, we believe there must be a true fusion between the body of order and the community; and working hard on prevention. Motivating the public to have property owners install cameras, and encourage with appreciation those who voluntarily dedicate themselves to protect Lawrence.
Sports are the easiest way to prevent crime, vagrancy and unemployment problems.
The holes in the streets and the trash are other problems that we must face with attitude in the city of Lawrence.
So the next time you see something to be improved here in Lawrence, be considerate and give a hand to this city.
