Estela Reyes’ abatements

District B City Councilor is known at City Hall a someone who has a bad record paying her property taxes to the city; yet, is it not a conflict for an assessor to abate the councilwoman property?

The list below shows how she received a reduction of $1,242.59 for the building located on 173-175 Haverhill St.  The city has spent lots of money on that building securing it so none of the students from the Oliver School next door get hurt.

I hope you take the time to read the 6th installment of the Corruption and Traffic of Influence in Lawrence series on page 8.  I started describing the councilor’s good fortune but it got better from that point.

Community meeting to discuss cable contracts

A few days ago I saw something on Facebook about a community meeting that Lawrence Community Access Television (LCAT) will have to discuss the upcoming contract renewals.

What a farce!

I will predict what will happen there.  I will not be in attendance because since 2005 I have been fighting for the right things to be done with LCAT but they have been ignored.  It’s not only the administration that pushed the issue aside because there have been three administrations during that time.

First, there will be 20 to 30 people in attendance, mostly from the Prospect Hill Neighborhood Association.  They will be there to discuss how expensive the cable service is and question if they offer a senior discount.  They may even complain about having reception problems in some channels. That’s the limit to what they know about the service they are paying for.

There will not be any information about their funding, expenses, salaries (that we are paying for), or any details about you may join LCAT and produce your own programs.

There will be no one asking about the Community Channel that both companies support.  That channel is supposed to be for the use of each one of us but they make it so damn difficult to use that there are no Lawrence news that can educate people.  No, I’m not referring to the two clowns laughing while they pretend to be “newscasters.”

Remember, you are paying on your monthly cable bill for a benefit you are denied.  But I am willing to bet nobody will bring it up.

Lawyers wanted

This is not about job openings but about the mayor needing more lawyers to handle the many lawsuits he is creating against the city.

Lawyers must love Dan Rivera because he creates more work for the legal profession than any other mayor that we have ever had.  Maybe even more than all of the others combined.
