Marianne Paley Nadel to Receive Exchange Club Book of Golden Deeds

The Exchange Club of Lawrence, which serves Andover, Lawrence and North Andover, will honor Marianne Paley Nadel with its Book of Golden Deeds Award in October.

This Award is presented to an individual who has given of  herself or himself for the benefit of the community . . . it’s people . . . and who’s efforts often go unrecognized; an individual who sees service to others as an opportunity, a responsibility, a gift. So it is when this person goes “above and beyond” . . . that their often unsung efforts draw the attention of the Exchange Club Board of Directors, and then the entire Exchange Club of Lawrence. The Book of Golden Deeds is the oldest of the National Exchange Club’s many programs . . . first awarded in 1919 by the Exchange Club of Huntington, Indiana.

“Without a doubt Marianne, is one such person, so often going ‘above and beyond.’ She is a most deserving recipient,” according to Sean Devan, Exchange Club President.

Marianne Paley Nadel is the owner/manager of the historic Everett and Stone Mills in Lawrence. An urban planner specializing in community based economic development; Marianne sees real estate as a means to create opportunity for entrepreneurship, job growth, urban manufacturing, and education. Marianne worked at the New York City Economic Development Corporation focusing on arts, culture and economic development. After receiving a Masters in City Planning from MIT in 1993, Marianne became a Senior Planner at Icon Architecture concentrating on historic and heritage projects.

In 1999, Marianne became the founding Executive Director of Groundwork Lawrence, a community based nonprofit focused on open space improvements, healthy food access programs, youth education and employment initiatives. Marianne is the Chair of the Lawrence Partnership, a Trustee of Northern Essex Community College, and Board Member at Groundwork Lawrence, and the Essex County Community Foundation’s Greater Lawrence Community Fund. And she offers her physical and financial support to a number of other organizations as well.

She is married to Eric Nadel, and mother to Josh, Emily and Henry.
