Please, Come Walk with Us.
A Point of View © 1996
By Paul V. Montesino, PhD, MBA, CSP.
I am telling the truth when I say that in the 28 years I have been writing my Point
of View columns I have never asked you to do something for me, with me, or anything
else you would not do by yourself or for yourself. Well, this is one of those moments.
This month, on the twentieth to be exact, we celebrate Easter. Approximately two
thousand years ago, a man who walked this earth, was eventually crucified, and put to
death at a place called Golgotha outside the city walls of Jerusalem. And this is the
person I invite you to join and walk with me. Some, even named him the Son of God.
Jesus walked with humble sandals or barefoot as did most of those he met, and
he would not mind being in the company of thieves and petty criminals. He tried to save
their souls. There is a loving soul in the heart of every human being, and you can touch
it if you hold their hand and walk together. It was not a coincidence that Jesus fed
thousands who attended his huge mass events from five loaves of bread and two
fishes.
It is evident these days that some may not be thieves or petty criminals but
deserve to walk accompanied by someone like Jesus. Unfortunately, not many want to
see themselves in the company of thieves or criminals, whether they are or not.
But Jesus went further. He decided to own and take responsibility for the sins of
those thieves and petty criminals, making them free from sin. And that is another
request from you: please make yourself responsible for the sins of humanity even if you
did not commit them. Easy? Of course not, but Jesus would not want us to walk with
him if we were unwilling to take that difficult step. It would make a better world for all of
us, not just some of us.
During the Roman Empire period, thousands were crucified, but only one, the
crucifixion of Jesus, led to a resurrection we call Easter.
Some will chase rabbits in their yards and look for eggs buried in the ground to
celebrate, but they will miss the opportunity to walk with the man from Jerusalem. Do
not miss that opportunity. Join me and walk with this man from Jerusalem named Jesus.
Those who suffer do not have to be or walk alone. They deserve our company and our
support. Easter is about resurrection and love. Let’s start the walk.
Have a happy Easter!
And that is my Point of View Today. So long.
