By Alberto Suris

Since Erving Severino had knowledge of the situation in which Russell Keeler, a Vietnam War veteran, he set the goal of helping him in every way possible. You can read his story in our August 1st. 2019 edition.
His first action was to buy an air conditioner to cool the room he is in. Second, in the company of his wife Jeannie and a group of volunteers showed up at his home and machete in hand cleared the brush that covered his house.
He then organized a small festival on the grounds of his workshop, Independent Import Specialist, a mechanic’s workshop located at 139 Jackson St., and invited his friends to come and cooperate with the veteran.
The answer was immediate. His friends who are many and know the passion he has for veterans, came to his aid. The first one was the Dominican Consul, Carmen Milagros Almonte who donated in the name of her country, $1,500 payable to D.A.V.A., a volunteer organization to which Severino belongs and is responsible for helping and protecting disabled American veterans.
