In our previous edition of November 22, 2016, we reported on the food and clothing drive being carried out at 530 Broadway in Lawrence to help the victims of El Cibao area in the Dominican Republic.
We are pleased to announce that the first container departed from Lawrence on Monday, November 28, late at night to New Jersey and placed on a ship which is scheduled to arrive on Monday, December 5, 2016, at the Port of Haina, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, according to Alfonso Rodriguez.
According to Rodriguez, the container has a length of 40 feet in length and a capacity of 44,000 Lbs. and contains an estimated 60% of food and 40% of clothing.
At the same time, Rodriguez reported that the collection continues, because the situation on the island has not changed, rains continue and several communities are still incommunicado.
“The collection continues. We’re at the same site, 530 Broadway. We are planning to send another container next Saturday, December 3. This time, we want to fill it with food; we already have enough clothes”, Rodriguez said.
