This coming November 5 all Massachusetts residents will exercise the right to vote. Especially, for those naturalized immigrants, this right is one of the greatest benefits we receive as a result of our American citizenship.
Our vote is the democratic way granted by the Constitution to place in government positions those individuals that we believe best will serve the needs of the people.
Most of us, who have emigrated from Latin American countries, were required to obtain a voting card complete with photograph to present to the authorities on the day to exercise our vote and are amazed by the fact that in this country there is no such requirement.
More than once voter identification has been tried unsuccessfully, always lacking support in the legislature, although the issue has been controversial in every election.
This year, and in order to erase the stigma of fraud each election leaves in the public’s perception, Michelle Tassinari, from the Office of State Elections Division convened a community meeting in Lawrence where she discussed the regulations to be implemented on Election Day. They contain nothing new, the problem is that many of them have been ignored, violated if you will.
Ms. Tassinari distributed specific instruction sheets which we have reproduced on page 10. While we are lacking voter identification, education becomes the best weapon so that we can achieve immaculate results this Election Day.
Remember, November 5th is your civic duty to vote. Vote for the candidate of your choice, but vote. And do not forget to change the time on Saturday, November 2nd.
