As in previous years, the Farmers Market is back. It started last week on Wednesday, July 10, with several local farmers offering their fresh products every Wednesday through October, from 8:30 to 3:30.
Do you remember when it was located in Appleton Way, between the City Hall and the Federal Court, and on hot days people had to seek protection from the hot sun in the shade of buildings? Well, no more. From this year on it will be located in the Campagnone Common across from the Senior Center under the shade of majestic trees that will protect you and the vegetables from the harmful rays of the sun.
According to Rosa Pina, event coordinator, 609 persons visited the market on opening day. “Today, Wednesday 17, from 8:30 AM we counted 334 and it’s only 1:00PM,” she said. At the market, you will find not only the freshest produce, but baked goods such as bread, biscuits, manufactured goods, etc., and from 12 noon until 2 pm, musical entertainment. “Today we have a trio, made up by Guillermo Ortiz, Anthony Perez and José Luis. They have been playing together for more than four years,” said Piña.
The market is sponsored by Groundwork Lawrence and the City of Lawrence where your EBT & WIC coupons are welcome.
