Progress with Museum Square Garage
We reproduced the letter from Justice Diane C. Freniere with her decision pertaining to accommodating the Museum Square tenants. I also wrote about my unanswered questions after reading it. I am particularly puzzled by the lack of information regarding the shuttle to be used.
I agreed with City Councilor Pavel Payano when he said, “If the Judge wanted the shuttles to be used for the entire day and not just the priority hours it would have been stated.” And like that, there are many things unfinished in her decision.
Councilor Jeovanny Rodriguez wants to make clear to tenants that, even if the judge did not bring it up, “They will be getting the shuttle for free but not the parking. They should start paying for parking to the city. That will help the City cover the cost of the shuttle.”
You can find it on page 7.
No Primary Election
Lawrence will only be having elections on September 24 in District C because all other districts have only two candidates and they will be passing to the final election in November. For Council at-Large there were six candidates and in the final election only three are to be chosen; but something happened in that race.
Jackie Marmol decided to get out and throw her support behind Richard Russell but the date to do that had passed and her name will continue on the ballot. We have to make sure that everyone knows about that because it will be a shame giving her a vote that will have no consequence.
Free Bus Rides
As you noticed on the front page, on September 1st begins the free bus service within the city. There was enough of a battle in the City Council to get $220,000 approved and it only happened after a “negotiation” with the mayor involving the purchase of the new voting machines.
That was not negotiation but extortion from the mayor. The best part about that is that he wanted to place a big sign on the busses saying that this was a gift from him and many residents heard about it and believed that the cost is coming from his pocket. Let’s make it clear that we are all – the taxpayers – paying for the busses, not him.
