Lawrence advances in services for the disabled
The City of Lawrence is meeting with a group of both state agencies and nonprofits that provide services to people with disabilities
Mayor Brian De Peña and ADA Coordinator Richard Rodriguez met a group of both state agencies and nonprofits that provide services to people with disabilities. The meeting was held at the conference room of the Massachusetts Exertive Office for Health and Human Service in Lawrence, MA.
The purpose of the meeting involves Mayor De Peña thanking those organizations for participating in Lawrence Disability Month. The purpose also involves reinforcing the partnership formed between the City of Lawrence and those organizations to provide needed services to people with disabilities.
In a packed room, Rodriguez also thanked those organizations and thanked Mayor De Peña. He said, “I am grateful to Mayor De Peña who demonstrated to be a friend of people with disabilities.” He said he received through the mail a Citation from the Governor’s Office presented to the City of Lawrence. The Citation states: “On behalf of the Citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, I am pleased to confer you this Governor’s Citation in Recognition of the City of Lawrence’s Efforts to Promote and Celebrate Disability Awareness Month.”
Receiving compliments for his work from the crowd, Rodriguez responded the one who also deserves credit is Mayor De Peña. Rodriguez read the Citation and presented it to Mayor De Peña for his support in improving the quality of life for people with disabilities: hiring the first full-time ADA Coordinator, supporting the first official Disability Month in Lawrence, renovating the City Hall evaluator that is ADA compliant, among others.
