Lawrence Puerto Rican Festival is canceled

The reason for this letter is to notify you that the Movimiento Puertorriqueño has made a decision not to celebrate the 1st Puerto Rican Festival, due to some obstacles such as funds and the lack of volunteers of our Puerto Rican community and activists in our city.

It’s really sad because we were so excited to do it but it’s not possible at this time. I really wish as president of this organization that we get more people involved to plan this event for May 2019. At that time we will also be celebrating 25 years of working in our organization.

People out there are criticizing us instead of joining in to help us celebrate the 1st Puerto Rican Festival next year because I believe that this is not only for the Movimiento Puertorriqueño but for the Puerto Rican community. The Movimiento Puertorriqueño is not planning to quit; we are moving forward to continue being part of this community.

Other activities that we are celebrating are the Puerto Rican Flag Raising, Back to School, Discovery of Puerto Rico and The Three Kings Day. I’m reaching out to the Puerto Rican people and other nationalities to join us and make this dream come true. God Bless you!

Thank you

Sara Iris Saldaña

President of the Puerto Rican Movement
