Chief Joseph Solomon and Lt. Joseph Aiello Have Lectured on Anti-Bullying and Anti-Violence at National Events for Past Five Years
The Methuen Police Department and Methuen Mayor James Jajuga announce that Chief Joseph Solomon and Lt. Joseph Aiello have been honored by the School Safety Advisory Council for their nationally-recognized work educating law enforcement and educational leaders on school safety.
The two department leaders have been invited to lecture about school safety, anti-violence and anti-bullying each of the past five years at the Council’s national conferences. They recently returned from Florida, where they presented at the 2018 School Safety Leadership Academy. While there, the SSAC presented Chief Solomon with an award plaque, recognizing the department’s contributions to school safety awareness.
“The City of Methuen is very fortunate to have some of our nation’s most renown experts on school safety and security, and our citizens are safer thanks to their experience and expertise,” Mayor Jajuga said.
Chief Solomon and Lt. Aiello have also been asked to present at SSAC’s first National Conference on Active School Shooters this October. The conference is the only national event of its kind that is focused on training law enforcement and school officials on how to prepare for and respond to an active school shooter, and draws on the experiences and best practices of experts from coast to coast.
Under Chief Solomon’s leadership, Methuen has long been at the forefront of school safety, and early on the city adopted of programs like the A.L.I.C.E. protocol and technologies like the Guardian Active Shooter Detection System that can alert police to school violence in real-time. Chief Solomon and Lt. Aiello are considered national experts on school safety and security, and they have shared their expertise with thousands of colleagues from around the world.
Here in Massachusetts, last month, the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association created a School Safety and Security Committee, and Chief Solomon was named chairman. This committee’s mission is to review school safety and security issues and serve as a statewide resource to police departments, cities and towns, and school districts.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our children,” Chief Solomon said. “I am proud to be selected alongside Lt. Aiello by the School Safety Advocacy Council to share our experiences with our colleagues and draw upon the vast wealth of knowledge present at these national events.”

The School Safety Advocacy Council (SSAC) was established in 2005 with the goal of providing the highest quality school safety training and services to school districts, law enforcement agencies and communities. The Council was founded to expand beyond the singular approach of relying on law enforcement as the solution for school violence to a cooperative approach that includes all stakeholders.
The School Safety Advocacy Council has become the recognized leader in school safety services and training.
