Chief Joseph Solomon is pleased to announce that Methuen Police Officer Patrick Waldron was recently recognized by a resident who credits the officer with saving his life during a medical call earlier this year.
On Wednesday, the 64-year-old resident mailed a handwritten letter to the Methuen Police Department thanking Officer Waldron for his assistance during the call on Jan. 17.
“Through the wonderful efforts of Officer Waldron and the EMTs who showed up at my house to help me on that January day I am still here,” the resident wrote in the letter. “My family and I will be eternally grateful to Officer Patrick Waldron and the EMTs of the City of Methuen.”
At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 17, Methuen Police responded to a home on Oak Ridge Street for a report of a man suffering from a medical event.
Upon arrival, Officer Waldron was speaking with the male patient when he began to go into cardiac arrest.
Officer Waldron quickly administered CPR and continued to do so until paramedics arrived.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he was able to be revived.
“Thanks to the quick actions of Officer Waldron, this man was given the medical attention he needed before the ambulance arrived. In instances like this, every second counts,” Chief Solomon said. “Receiving letters like this one is always a great part of the job. It was great to hear back from this resident and I am glad he is feeling better.”
