Attorney Salim Tabit delivered to the office of City Clerk William Maloney the petition for a recount of votes in the mayoral election. After announcing his decision, Mayor William Lantigua received over 3,000 signatures at his Essex St. headquarters from people who voted in the last election asking for a recount of votes by hand and one by one. The electoral law requires candidates to accompany the petition with 10 signatures of voters per district. In the case of Lawrence, Lantigua only needed 60 certified signatures in total.
