As we begin to move away from the lack of hot summer days and rainy days that come with it, the organizers and the audience at the Feast of St. Alfio and St. Anthony Mahrajan last weekend emerged triumphant, as the weather could not have been better and those who did not attend and enjoyed both events it was by choice. The weather was no excuse.
This makes us think about the next Preliminary Election to be held on September 9th. Rain usually has a lot to do with the number of people getting out voting that day, so we have to remind certain priorities.
Traditionally, we hear people and especially the candidates pray for good weather on Election Days because they know that at the slightest rain, snow or cold, voters stay home particularly in the Preliminary Election.
We need to understand the importance of the elections of September 9 as a candidate may be out of the two top positions if the day dawns no good.
When elections come November 4, we will be limited to two names and again, those who have not done their duty, that day could be as disappointed as their preferred candidate who could not put his name on the ballot because some citizens abstained from voting.
Are we going to let the weather stop us from going out to make the most important decision in a difficult time?
