Lawrence 2014 Inauguration Plans Underway Festivities to last two days
Mayor- Elect Dan Rivera’s Inauguration Committee announced its schedule of events and celebrations for the 2014 Lawrence Inauguration, including a beautiful Inaugural Ceremony outside of City Hall at noon on Friday, January 3rd. U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren will be on hand to administer the oath of office.
This ceremony is open to the public and press, and all are encouraged to join in the celebration.
Committee Co-Chair Elizabeth Delgado recalled a previous Rivera theme in describing the ceremony, “The Mayor- Elect promised that he would bring sunshine on city hall, and we want the inauguration to be the first representation of that. So many people do not visit city hall and see it for the beautiful structure that it is. We want to celebrate this new administration, to celebrate the good work that will get done in this city.” In order to allow residents to plan for the events, the committee today released a schedule of events that it hopes will draw residents, business owners, volunteers and friends of the city.
• Friday, January 3, 2014 at noon – Inauguration Ceremony, outside City Hall that includes a blanket drive for families in need: “Bring a Blanket, Leave a Blanket” with a reception inside City Hall to follow
• Friday, January 3, 2014 at 7PM – Inaugural Gala, Lawrence Elks Club, a ticketed event with hors d’oeuvres and live music
• Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 1PM – Family Fun Day with the Mayor at Campagnone Common that includes ice skating, music, face painting and more
While details are still being finalized, the committee, led by Co-Chairs Elizabeth Delgado and Wendy Luzon, assures a schedule to attract residents to join in the unity. Delgado and Luzon have teamed up in the past to plan many community events. Luzon noted, “The team is hard at work preparing for a wonderful two days of events and celebrations to welcome in the new administration.” Invitations and flyers are currently being prepared for widespread distribution. “The committee is focused on so many details to make this a truly spectacular celebration,” said Rivera. “I am excited to see it all come together, and I encourage everyone to join us on January 3rd and 4th.”
