State Representative Frank A. Moran (D-Lawrence) held the Third Annual Basketball Tournament with the Lawrence Police Department this past Saturday.
The basketball tournament took place at the O’Neil Basketball courts where approximately 100 youth attended the tournament between the ages of 6 and 17. This is the third time that Representative Moran along with the Lawrence Police Department and other community members organized this basketball tournament in the City of Lawrence.
“I always emphasize the importance of the youth establishing trust and positive relationships with the Law Enforcement. All too often, in our communities, children learn from a young age to fear and stay away from police officers. This event helps to break down that negative barrier between the youth and the police. We all gather together sharing time over basketball, food, ice cream, and music, and that is what community is about: working together to ensure that everyone is living their best life possible.” .
“I can’t say enough about Representative Frank Moran’s continued commitment to the children of Lawrence. The Lawrence Police Department was proud to be a partner with Frank at his annual basketball tournament by bringing our officers, ice cream truck and donating two bicycles to raffle. The fact that the tournament is in its 3rd year and getting bigger is a testament to his hard work. We remain committed with him to community engagement and congratulate him on another great event,” said Chief of Police Roy Vasque.
“It’s always an honor for us to take part of this great initiative,” added Jose Dilone, founder of the Suenos Basketball Program.”
