State Representative Frank A. Moran (D-Lawrence) held the First Annual Basketball Tournament with the Lawrence Police Department this past Saturday, August 19th.
The basketball tournament took place at the O’Neil Basketball Court where approximately 50 youth attended the game between the ages of 7 and 17. This is the first time that Representative Moran along with the Lawrence Police Department and other community members organized this annual basketball tournament in the City of Lawrence.
“I am thrilled that this event took place and that the youth had a chance to play basketball and interact with the Police officers. It is crucial that from an early age young people understand the role of law enforcement agents and that they start getting an idea of who the police are and start establishing trust and relationships between one another,” said Representative Frank A. Moran.
“We are grateful of being part of this wonderful event sponsor by State Representative Frank Moran and the Lawrence Police Department, said Sueños Basketball Director Jose Dilone. “Our kids were proud of participating in the event and to have had the opportunity to spend time with the police officers. We want to thank Rep. Moran for allowing us this opportunity to collaborate together,” added Mr. Dilone.
“Representative Moran hosted a great community event involving community youth and the Lawrence Police Department which provided for positive interactions between police and local youth. The police department also donated two mountain bikes which were raffled off to two lucky youths,” said Police Chief James F. Fitzpatrick.
