State Representative Frank A. Morán Presents the Lawrence Recreation Department with Check for $50,000 to Support Youth Summer Jobs and Programming
State Representative Frank A. Morán (D – Lawrence) attended Kids Fest, the annual culmination of the summer program offered by the Lawrence Recreation Department and Greater Lawrence Community Boating, on Wednesday, August 9.
Representative Morán joined staff from the Lawrence Recreation Department to present them with a ceremonial check for $50,000 that he secured in a recent economic development bill. The funding provided recreational programming and summer job opportunities to at-risk and low-income youth in Lawrence.
“I was proud to secure this funding in the omnibus economic development package that was signed into law last fall to ensure that the youth of our city were provided with safe and fun recreational activities this summer,” said Representative Morán. “Advocating for the kids of Lawrence is my top priority as state representative and I would like to thank the Lawrence Recreation Department and their staff for hosting yet another successful program.”
“I am thankful for Representative Morán’s continued efforts to provide state funding to the young people of Lawrence,” said Mayor Brian DePeña. “This funding was instrumental in my administration’s efforts to provide the kids of Lawrence with recreational activities and mentorship throughout the summer and we are appreciative of the work that has been done by the Lawrence Recreation Department to support the youth of our city.”
“Events such as this highlight the amazing work being done within our community to provide our kids with the opportunity to have a memorable summer experience,” said Health and Human Services Director Martha Velez. “Representative Morán has always been a strong proponent of the young people of Lawrence and this funding went a long way to support the mission of the Lawrence Recreation Department to uplift and support our youth.”
Representative Morán secured a total of $325,000 in funding through An Act relating to economic growth and relief for the Commonwealth, which was signed into law in November 2022 and included $3.76 billion in critical funding to aid small businesses, promote workforce development, and provide financial support to the municipalities of Massachusetts.
