Opinion piece
Photos of the event

On Sunday, the 27th of August, the long awaited Dominican Parade was again celebrated in Lawrence.
Although we do not have the photos on the internet of the first parade held in 2001, we do have the edition 128 of Rumbo on September 1st, 2001 which we titled Dominican Pride! where you can tell the difference.
Who does not remember the horse-drawn carriage? The Lawrence Ballet Academy “bohio” (typical thatched roof home in the islands) and the aboriginal indian carriage. Back then we saw culture, customs, revived the way our ancestors lived. This year, the only “Dominican” thing was two men pushing rubber tires with a pair of clubs, the rest was a sea of politicians.
I would like to know the opinion of Vaneri Delgado, daughter of Vanessa and Joel, who was only 2 months old that day, which for her was her first parade. I’d like to know what she thinks about what we just celebrated. Already 16 years old, I wonder if she participated.
While we wait for her answer, if she reads this article, I for my part will give you mine. I do not care what they say, I cannot hear anyone; I am still deaf from the unnecessary noise produced by specially prepared vehicles to make noise.
In my opinion, it is not necessary in this city. Someone, especially among the candidates that were in abundance in the parade, I would like to see one of them suggest it, somebody who speaks in our behalf, and say that if elected, will introduce legislation to control the use and abuse by the owners of the mentioned vehicles. And do not come up with stories, they may have the right to own them and use them, but I also have the right not to be disturbed by their unnecessary noise. That’s not music!
