On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, the Lawrence Public Library hosted the first cultural event sponsored by the Global Democracy and Development Foundation FUNGLODE, aimed at the Dominican diaspora in Massachusetts, as part of its commitment to rescuing cultural heritage and the enhancement of the national identity of the Dominican Republic.
During the event the documentary “There is a Country in the World” was shown, whose title was taken from the emblematic poem of the celebrated Dominican poet Don Pedro Mir and offers a vivid ride through the natural landscape of that Caribbean nation, describing its history, culture and social values in the voice of experts in specific areas of knowledge, and leads the audience on a musical tour of the country of approximately one hour and thirty minutes.
The documentary was directed by José Enrique (Pinky) Pintor with the sponsorship of the Dominican bank BHD León.
Prior to the documentary presentation Ms. Jessica Valentin, director of the Public Library of the City of Lawrence, was given a copy of the “Diccionario Cultural Dominicano” and the book “Lo Dominicano”, both publications produced by the FUNGLODE publishing house. The attendees expressed their pride in being Dominican and the passion they have for their origins.
Attendees tasted appetizers donated by Amílcar Gonell, President of Fusión, as well as Café Santo Domingo thanks to the contribution of Luis Fanjul on behalf of Induban.
