Lawrence Elections Results
During the Primary Elections in Lawrence, out of 42,724 registered voters, only 8,791 voted. In the Senate race, the results were: Joe Kennedy receiving 5346 votes beating Ed Markey who received 2492. Although Kennedy ended up winning in Lawrence, he lost in the total district.
In the race for Representative in the 17th District, Frank Moran earned 2177 votes, while Marianela Rivera received 648 votes and there were 60 Blanks.
In the 16th District, Rep. Marcos Devers had no opposition and received 3281 votes with 609 Blanks.
Senator Barry Finegold was also running unopposed, receiving 6406 votes with 1434 Blanks.
The only setback was at Essex Towers where a tent was set up but when it got dark, poll workers had to work by the light of their cell phones. The Fire Department had to be called to provide emergency lights. The Elections Department had secured a lease to use Northern Essex Community College’s Dimitry Building but Mayor Dan Rivera insisted on having the tent instead.
“I am grateful the workers pulled this off. Lawrence has some very dedicated and hardworking people. Richard Reyes, Dan Tavor, and Ruben Perez deserve all the credit,” said City Clerk Bill Maloney. “I could never work like this without them; and we all miss Carole.”
