The Office of Mayor Dan Rivera is currently working with local colleges to promote and engage students in Public service opportunities. The Internship Program is designed for college students who have an interest in pursuing a career in government, public administration or who wish to gain experience in their chosen field. Two students will be selected for each semester. The spring program is set to run for nine weeks, starting March 10th and ending on May 9, 2014.
Applications are available for students to apply with the Mayor’s Office within the City of Lawrence. The Mayor’s Office is seeking dedicated, intelligent, and hardworking interns with a strong interest in public service. Duties include assisting the department with daily operations, such as answering the phone and returning messages from constituents, drafting letters, in-taking mail, and other administrative tasks. Successful applicants will have strong interpersonal skills, professional communication skills, and the ability to think on your feet.
The Mayor’s Office works to ensure that the office is accessible to all Lawrence residents. The Mayor’s staff serves and provides assistance for citizen questions, comments, requests and concerns.

- Complete the Internship Application (available on the city’s webpage & Mayor’s Office) by Friday, February 28, 2014 by 4:00 P.M.
- Provide a copy of your driver’s license or College ID
- Enclose with your application a copy of your most recent college transcript.
- Submit a cover letter (one page, typed, 400 words max) explaining what you hope to gain from your internship experience and why you should be considered for this opportunity.
- A letter of recommendation by a professor or other faculty member or previous employer is recommended, but not required. Letters may be included in the application or sent directly to our office via email at edelgado@cityoflawrence.com
