Following the tradition, every year, members of the Irish Consulate meet in the Library of South Lawrence with a group of students from the Catholic Academy and read books to them and tell them about Ireland.
This year we were visited by Casey McElmeel and Anne Flynn-Bovenga. Ms. Flynn-Bovenga brought her favorite book, The Children of Lir, which she read to children.
The Children of Lir (Irish: Oidheadh chloinne Lir) is a legend from Irish mythology. It is a tale from the post-Christianization period that mixes magical elements such as druidic wands and spells with a Christian message of faith bringing freedom from suffering.
Needless to say, the reading developed a tremendous curiosity among children.
