City celebrated Christmas

By Alberto Surís

On Monday, December 2nd, the City of Lawrence lit the traditional Christmas tree adjacent to City Hall. As every year, there were gifts for the children, who were delivered by Santa who made the wellawaited visit.

Among those who donated items to make this a memorable occasion are Polartec, who donated blankets to be raffled off among those present. Showcase Cinema donated tickets for movies. Woodard & Curran, the company operating the water plant, donated toys as well as the director of the Department of Public Works, John Isensee and his staff, Patty Denault and Cathy Vailancourt also donated toys. As in previous years, the Director of the Senior Center, Martha Velez and her husband Fernando made a donation, this time it was a bicycle, received by young Leyda Mane as reported on the cover.

Leo Hamel, of Amanda-Joe Plantations in Sayreville, Quebec, donated the beautiful Christmas wreath that adorns the entrance of City Hall. Hamel is the same that brought the Christmas trees that are sold at #0 Broadway in Lawrence, with Richard Neary in charge. The Lawrence High School Girls Ensemble could not miss a celebration like this one and delighted the audience with their Christmas songs. Also present was City Attorney Charles Boddy, dressed in a Santa outfit to the delight of the children.
