Editorial: Hispanic Week ended

Lawrence just celebrated Hispanic Week. As we all know, Semana Hispana consists of 10 days of cultural celebrations that start with the VIP Gala Dinner, followed by several ethnic cultural nights to end with a great carnival party, which lasts 3 days in the Campagnone Common, including a one mile long colorful parade.

Unfortunately, this last activity was not carried out this time. As usual, on Sunday the 16th, Rumbo’s camera was present at Central Catholic’s parking lot with the intention of covering the event. To our surprise, the parking lot was deserted. We made a call to the Hispanic Week’s President but we did not get a response and it was impossible for us to leave a message since his cell phone’s box was full.

“The parade was canceled due to rain,” Sara Saldaña informed us when we contacted her. This was a surprise because the 2009 parade took place in the rain. Many carried umbrellas, others nothing, but everyone looked happy despite the rain.

It is easy to describe all these activities in a few lines or pages, but for the organizers of the cultural nights, as well as the activities of Semana Hispana, which include not only the parade and the celebration in the park, but a series of competitions for selecting queens is not easy.

We want to congratulate each of the organizers of the activities of Semana Hispana for their work, and we tell them all, Until Next Year!
