The Firefighters Dance was celebrated with a dinner dance at DiBurro’s in Haverhill on Saturday, the 20th of September.
What for a long time this was an annual celebration which for unknown reasons had not been carried out since 1997, until a young firefighter, José Abreu reignited the idea.
Abreu consulted with veteran firefighter Juan (Manny) Gonzalez, he thought it great and immediately, an organizing committee was formed consisting of Johnny Jimenez, Felix Reyes, Mark Lynch, Jene Jimenez, Ignacio Reyes and of course, Gonzalez and Abreu.
Without much effort they sold 180 tickets and the dance was a complete success. They didn’t need an orchestra, just the electric guitar of retired firefighter Frank Skusevich to enjoy a night full of joy between families.
Chief Brian Moriarty and Captain Eric Zahn, surrounded by the organizers of the event, took the opportunity to deliver a plaque reminder to Lieutenant James Flynn who retired after 35 years of impeccable service.
