First Amendment to the Constitution

I feel very strongly about the liberties we are guaranteed in this country and would like to ask you to read our editorial this week.  I believe that things are going the wrong way in the United States and we are losing too many freedoms – most recently, the right to think independently.

The Councilors and the City Charter

At the latest meeting of the full City Council in Lawrence, President Modesto Maldonado made a speech about not voting for the approval of Theresa Park because it was in direct violation of the Charter.  We have published a brief section of the City Charter explaining the proper procedure for personnel appointments and removals and nothing of that sort has taken place.

Please read it carefully on page 6 and you will see that the Charter is very clear.

Also in this issue, Ismael Rondon wrote an article on page 9 entitled “The end does not justify the means” which is very enlightening.  Ismael gives us examples connecting last week’s incident with normal rules in other areas of life.
