It never fails, always before and after elections, “well informed” voices rise throwing accusations around on Spanish radio about the malfunctioning elections department.
For immigrants coming from Latin America where we have to vote not only by being registered in the electoral rolls but possessing a card or some form of identification, it is outrageous that here we don’t have this requirement, that’s why these “well informed ” individuals always blame the system for the elections outcome.
It is noteworthy that in our countries, despite the above conditions we still hear voices of “electoral fraud”, of course, mostly coming from the losers block, never from the winners. Just like here!
To be honest, we were convinced that this time there would be none, if we believe what the “well informed” people on the radio said hinting that there would be fraud: 1. – If you are not a citizen, don’t even think of voting. You could be deported. 2.- Do not ever vote for another person; you can be arrested and even imprisoned. The conviction can be severe. 3.- The FBI is monitoring all polling stations. 4.- Cameras have been placed at all schools to monitor the vote.
We estimate that these threats were directed to frighten the alleged offenders as a frequent radio caller said he knew of someone who had voted twice in the same place. Another complaint more shocking was from someone who claimed to have seen a person vote 24 times in the same school where this person said to be working for the Elections Department.
Unfortunately these allegations were made on Spanish radio, instead of the proper authorities.
So we welcome the news that the Candidate for Mayor Daniel Rivera stated to the local newspaper that he plans to ask Secretary of State William Galvin “to put observers in all 24 polling places on Election Day to avoid what he called ‘a large number of irregularities’ on Tuesday.”
