POR ALBERTO SURIS :: Más de 50 personas en su mayoría mujeres
vestidas de novia marcharon para denunciar la violencia
doméstica en la Séptima Marcha de las Novias, el 26 de
septiembre, 2009 en Lawrence. Este evento se lleva a cabo
todos los años en memoria de Gladys Ricart, la cual fue
asesinada el día de su boda, el 26 de septiembre de 1999 por
su antiguo novio Agustín García.
La marcha fue patrocinada por Delamano, Inc.; YWCA of Greater
Haverhill Women’s Resource Center; YWCA of Greater Lawrence
and City of Lawrence Mayor’s Health Task Force. Entre los
participantes se encontraba Miss Massachusetts, Amanda Kelly,
que marcharon desde la esquina de la Plaza 114 y South Union
hasta el Lawrence Senior Center en el 155 de la Calle
Haverhill.

dressed in wedding gowns walked to denounce domestic violence
at the 7th Annual Brides’ March on September 26, 2009 in
Lawrence. This event is held every year in memory of Gladys
Ricart, who was murdered on her wedding day, September 26,
1999 by her ex-boyfriend Agustin Garcia.
The march was sponsored by Delamano, Inc.; YWCA of Greater
Haverhill Women’s Resource Center; YWCA of Greater Lawrence
and City of Lawrence Mayor’s Health Task Force. Marchers,
including Miss Massachusetts Amanda Kelly, walked from the
corner of Plaza 114 in South Union to the Lawrence Senior
Center, located at 155 Haverhill Street.
