Although the word “threat” is not appropriate when we are referring to a priest, in this case it is acceptable.
Those who do not know what we meant should check our October 1, 2012 editorial, edition 394, entitled “Lawrence, Mecca of International Literature”.
In this editorial we summarized what happened during the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of September 2012 for the 7th International Book Fair and after reviewing the successes of Father Almonó as the main organizer of the event, we ended up saying: “Three unforgettable days that Father Almonó and his team gave us and promised to repeat next year, bigger and even better,” and ended saying, ” we do not know how, but knowing them, we know they will.”
Well, starting with the space. Last year the Bashara Boathouse located on Eaton Street became too small for the amount of people who wanted to attend the gala dinner. This year we will have more than twice the space as it will be held at the Masonic Temple. Learn about the various activities, dates and locations of the show reading the ad on page 5 of this edition.
The Fair is honored again to present the poet and writer Zoé Valdes, who specifically will travel from Paris, where she lives to receive the tribute. Among those who will receive special recognition is Chet Sidell, recognized as a visionary who has been a Lawrence advocate and conservationist of historic buildings so abundant in our city. His son, Gary Sidell, an accomplished pianist, will entertain us with contemporary music.
A classic touch of the event is the scheduled posthumous tribute to Robert Frost, one of the most popular and critically respected American poets of the twentieth century.
And as always after a good dinner, a good dessert, the stellar performance of Broadway star, Xiomara Laugart. We will not tell you about her; you have to come and see and hear her singing. Then you can tell us about it!
