Committee assignments for city councilors

The list of the committees in which the councilors will participate was released last week with the names of those who will be forming them.  It’s good to know this information because when residents have a concern, rather than call the district councilor, they can contact a member of that committee and get the proper answer or assistance.

Please note that there’s a new committee established by the new president Jeovanny Rodriguez; the Economic Development Committee will be dealing with the plans to improve and grow the city.  President Rodriguez has a vision of how these conversations will impact the items they discuss at other times.

Councilors of 20 years ago

Sometimes I wonder if I’m too old to accept modern society but there are too many differences that I remember.

While talking among some friends, we remembered how city councilors aired their grievances and opinions, sometimes rather irate, others more subtle.  Outside of the council meetings, they showed a united front at public events and were very civil.

Today, there are so many disagreements and fights that everyone is aware of that everyone is aware of how they feel about each other.  This, in turn, affects the entire community because we want our representatives to solve our problems and not get into clashes among them.  Sometimes we wonder if they vote in a certain way for political reasons or spite against another councilor.

In our conversation, we concluded that it’s because of social media.  Everything gets aired through the computer or telephone screen and lots of mistakes are made.  Besides, we lose respect for those individuals who behave more like the old busybodies back home.

There is no dignified behavior at the city council anymore and we can blame it on social media and the behavior of a few.

Please don’t spread rumors that you pick up on those pages.  If you want to find out the truth, do as I do, go to the source, and get it straight.  Don’t contribute to that disease!
