There is nothing to do here

Many times we hear expressions such as, there is nothing to do here or place to go to have a good time. They are so wrong!

It is true that our celebrations are not held in lavish locations, although the quality of presentations continues to be tops. And best of all, in many cases the admission is free or the price is very low and especially there is no need to travel far, rather close to home.

Example of what we say, are the events we have recently reported, such as the International Book Fair, which brought glory to our city. The photography exhibit by Dominican photographers as well as paintings by masters from the same country have filled our lives with vibrant colors during these gray winter days at the Essex Art Center and the magnificent Fasanella’s Lawrence exhibit at Heritage State Park.

To this we can add some events just completed these days. The lighting of the Christmas tree adjacent to Lawrence City Hall with a visit from Santa Claus bringing gifts for the children and the awesome St. Mary’s Christmas dinner of which we have some photos in this edition.

For those who truly enjoy this season, during this weekend New England Civic Ballet presented the traditional “Nutcracker” ballet at Merrimack College which will be repeated next weekend, while Northern Essex Community College will offer the play “A Christmas Carol” in Haverhill.

We must mention the tribute to Don Luis Bonilla, the Golden Muñequito that was held Saturday 7th, of this month, of which we will show photos and details in the next edition and the theatrical presentation of Monogamy going underway as we write these lines. Unfortunately, we missed it, but knowing the caliber of the presenters we can ensure that it was a success.

And the plays continue on Friday 13th, Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th. If you like theater, do not miss it. Then do not say, that you were at home watching soap operas because there is nothing to do here.
