A couple of weeks ago, a City Hall employee needed to search for some old documents upon the retirement of a city employee and what she encountered was so appalling that she complained to the mayor’s office. The conditions under which she found important information was so dreadful that the city is now tracking what went wrong and who is responsible for such a mess.

About one year ago, Mayor Michael Sullivan’s office decided to clean out all the old files from City Hall and particularly the vault in the basement. Everyone saw that as an opportunity to put things away in a safe place and make their cramped offices a bit more comfortable.

Bryan Cahoon, the Information Technology director in charge of the city’s computers contracted with a company that would move several hundreds of boxes and file cabinets to a city-owned empty building for storage and then scan them in order to archive them electronically.
Mr. Cahoon resigned within a few days of the Lantigua administration when he was asked to write down about his job and projected budget for the rest of the year.

The company now requires more money and none of the work has been done.

Meanwhile, personnel and medical records are spread all over and in uncovered boxes, making it a treasure trove for anyone with unlawful intentions.

The worst part about it is that Mayor William Lantigua’s office has not been able to find appropriate records to take action against that company.
