City of Lawrence receives 76,140 COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test

 

(Lawrence, Massachusetts) – Mayor Brian A, DePeña was on hand to receive COVID-19 Self-Test from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency arrived in Lawrence at 9:50 AM and unloaded 38,070 COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Two Test Kits.

 

The kits are being stored at a city building location. Member of the Mayor’s Health Task Force along with individuals from the Board of Health, and the Health & Human Services Department, met with Mayor DePeña, this afternoon, to discuss the rollout of the rapid test. The discussion, centered among the priorities, possibly creating a set of instructions in diverse, and listing of organizations and agencies that are receiving test kits, and the roll out date.

 

Mayor DePeña stated “I thank Governor Charlie Baker in providing the City of Lawrence with additional tools in the fight against this virus.  As winter begins and the holidays are in full swing, the COVID-19 pandemic has entered another worrying phase. Making at-home COVID-19 rapid tests available, along with masking, testing, and vaccination, remains the most effective ways to track and reduce transmission COVID-19.”

 

A press conference is scheduled for Friday, December 17, 2021 in Lawrence City Hall to provide additional information to the community. Director of the City’s Board of Health, Michael Armano, said that “While testing, case investigation, and mask wearing are important component to slowing the spread of COVID-19, vaccination is the most critical step to controlling the spread.”

 

These COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test are convenient because they are easy to use and provide results quickly, typically within about 15 minutes.

 

“The community will have direct access to these rapid test in a number of ways. As we gather during the holidays, it is important to test prior to your gatherings to keep love ones safe.” indicated the Director of Health & Human Services Martha Velez.
