Sorry, Kendrys!
In our last edition I noted that Kendrys Vasquez had not communicated to Rumbo the schedule for the budget meetings of the Lawrence City Council. I later found out that I have been missing several email messages from different sources.
Councilor Vasquez came on CrossOver and I apologized when he told me that he did send it.
So, if you send me something, make sure to call and let me know – until I solve that problem.
Wasting my time with Carmen
Honestly, I don’t know if I should continue going to Microfono Abierto with Carmen Chalas on WLLH 1400 AM La Mega on Mondays at 10 o’clock. I have no need to do anything that angers me or waste my time but having a conversation on the radio that people can barely hear because it keeps going off the air – for 10 minutes at a time – it’s senseless. Sometimes, after having very interesting, warm, news-worthy or exciting exchanges, we hear that the public has heard nothing.
I find that to be extremely disrespectful from management to a business person who is paying for that air time, cannot collect from her advertisers and never gets a credit for lost time. The funny part is that it does not happen on any other show during the day. They have given her the excuse that it happens because she is the first one to break away from the network in the day.
Time for a heart attack? Not for me at La Mega!
Back to the old days
Several years ago, we remember publishing pictures of city employees parking directly across from City Hall, INSIDE THE CAMPAGNONE COMMON!
Recently, there was a parking spot next to the building reserved for the mayor’s car but when Mayor Rivera came into office he changed it to “Employee of the Month” because he was choosing to keep it at the garage. We don’t know if that is still the case or who is using it.
Now, he wants to be closer to the door or let the public know that he is at work and is parking illegally inside the Common.
Break in – not CSI
There was a break-in a few days ago (to someone else, not us) and the police was called at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. An officer arrived within a few minutes and the individual thanked him for being so prompt. His response, “It’s a slow day!” He was obviously upset for being taken away from the important tasks that he was realizing.
When someone mentioned not having touched anything in case they wanted to dust for fingerprints, his answer was, “We’re not CSI,” referring to the television show.
It is attitudes like that the reason for not calling the police in case of need. We don’t even find out if there was an investigation, if a report of the incident was made, and nothing is ever resolved.
Late, too!
I hate to think that this is contagious but State Representative Frank Moran arrived late to the Memorial Day Ceremony and that is why he was not sitting among the officials.
Then, on the Commencements celebration in Lawrence, Councilor Estela Reyes walked in the middle of the stage to find her seat long after the ceremony had started and Superintendent/Receiver Jeffrey Reilly had spoken.
Politicians should understand that, if they cannot make it on time, it is best not to show up at all. Don’t worry, no one will miss you!
