The much awaited speech of the Mayor of Lawrence Daniel Rivera (his first) on the status of the city, which was scheduled for seven o’clock in the evening of Tuesday, February 4, 2014, was delayed a few minutes while a group of local youth was recognized for their stellar performance during the past year.
When they were announced, the City Council Chambers was filled of future. That good future promised by this group of 13 girls from The Lawrence Pop Warner Football and Cheer Program who represented Lawrence in local, regional and state competitions, excelling in each.
To join the Pop Warner Cheerleaders program is not only necessary to express joy on the face, having a competitive spirit and good rhythm to dance. While receiving education about the value of competition, they have to keep their degrees at a satisfactory level in order to be admitted as such.
As the resolution reads, which was delivered to this group, this girls under the supervision of Coach Leida Feliciano, competed in the Merrimack Valley Competition, winning first place in the Eastern Massachusetts Competition, second place in the Lowell Competition, first place at Regionals in Springfield, and third place at Nationals in Orlando , Florida.
We thank Councilors Marc Laplante for initiating this recognition and Oneida Aquino for co-sponsoring the resolution. Without them, perhaps we may have never heard about the efforts of this group.
