Lawrence’s future is promising:

Imported Dreamz

By Susan D. Díaz

Oftentimes when I mention the city that I live in people make comments purely based on what they’re hearing in the news.  I think that happens often in a lot of cities and towns throughout the country.

I hear Los Angeles and I think “Nope!  Not going there.”

Yet we fail to take a real look at the city and all that’s here that makes it what it is.

The cultures, the diversity of people…. THE FOOD (we can’t forget the food!), is all amazing.  What gets me the most about the City of Lawrence is the talent I see from local artists, musicians, and even actors.

One night while walking through my building I heard some music being played by the security desk.

I’m not much into rap music and such but for some reason, the sound was just calling out to me so I stopped to chat and ask about it.  It was to my surprise that the man behind the desk said it was his music and he just wrote it.

The men behind the music are a local group called GlassHouse comprised of Luis Luna, “Luna,” Gerald Liriano “Liri,” Jahmo Chavez “Elijae,” and Michael Tejada, “Michael T.”  these men are making a difference in the City of Lawrence.

Meeting at a Beats Competition in 2017, they came together under the umbrella name Imported Dreamz to create music such as this great, catchy tune PRTTYGURLSWAANATAST, https://www.importeddreamz.com/prrtygurls-links

Much more music will be coming out in the near future, so I encourage all to sign up for their mailing list at the bottom of the page at https://www.importeddreamz.com/

Yet under Imported Dreamz they’re also making movies and writing scores for the films under Michael T. Films, www.michaeltfilms.com

It’s not that these guys just get together to make music, they take it even further.  Michael T. is also a local filmmaker.

Michael has stated “I’m a filmmaker, and so far, I enjoy directing, writing, producing, lighting, and cinematography. I think to be limiting myself to one thing feels unfair, the term filmmaker kind of wraps everything in a bow nicely.”

Michael T started making films around 2016, beginning to document friends creating art around his hometown of Lawrence, Massachusetts. Which led him to his love of filmmaking. Michael made his first narrative short film in 2019, titled “BOYS WILL BE BOYS”  which was nominated for multiple film festivals across the world.  In 2020, he made his second short film titled “ERIKA”, which was also nominated and selected to be featured on the popular filmmaking hub No Budge.

He recently finished his third short film titled “JUNE 22ND”. Which is currently being reviewed by other film festivals.

So, what’s next for these guys?

Well, they’re currently crowdfunding for their latest film “Bailando,” a love story that honors the legacy of Bachata (Dominican genre of dance and music) and the Dominican culture.  I encourage everyone reading to click on the following link to read more about it and help them bring this love story to life.  https://seedandspark.com/fund/bailandomovie#story
