Let’s seek peace

This is the season in which we traditionally find the love and the affection of all around us. This has been a difficult year for the world, the whole country and especially for our city and in particular for the families of so many victims of violence.

We are tired of burying our youth and tying the reputation of our city to these monstrous acts and even those who are surrounded by so much evil daily, suffering the consequences, cleaning up the damage caused by their actions.

We have held marches for peace, vigils, National Night Out and as many community event aimed at eliminating violence and instead of reducing it, every day it seems to get stronger.  Women are still being abused, our merchants and taxi drivers continue to be assaulted which has resulted in many within our community being afraid to go out into the street.

It even seems strange wishing a Merry Christmas to our neighbors because we do not know what they carry inside. Maybe, we hear it with irony. The reality is one: we have to seek peace within ourselves before we try to go out and spread it. Thank God for having health and love within your home and that will be the beginning to desire others the same as you already found.
