This edition comes at the same time when thousands of people are getting ready to celebrate the city’s annual festivals. In fact, Hispanic organizations have been holding activities for months, such as beauty pageants and a week dedicated to celebrating the culture of different countries in preparation for the Grand Finale, the three days in the Campagnone and parade.
As we celebrate, we must not forget the sick, the weak, the elderly and especially those who are homeless, some because they have lost everything, victims of fire.
Heal Lawrence, a movement that grew out of that need, thanks to the vision of Wayne Hayes and Manny Gonzalez, has been assisting victims of fires, housing them in hotels and helping them housing to live in, armed only with the support received from a handful of generous people and some businesses. But it was not enough, the demand and the need was great.
Then the Rotary Club became aware of Heal Lawrence’s project and pledged their support and to begin fundraising, organized a comedy night with hypnotist Jerry Valley, well known in the Valley and around the country, setting the date for Saturday, June 7, 2014.
The event was a success, with a full house. For the price of admission, attendees were eligible for dinner and a fabulous show of which we will bring some pictures and details in our next edition. We caution that the photos do not do justice to the event that we all enjoyed.
Wayne Hayes and Manny Gonzalez could not be happier. No doubt that this match with the Lawrence Rotary Club will carry Heal Lawrence to new levels.
