While we understand that Elections and Thanksgiving are two very different topics that do not belong in the same story, let alone in the same sentence, we are going to give it a try.
Having just ended a very ugly electoral period when unpleasant things were said, friendships were broken and our community has been resentful, some people were living under fear. Toward the end, it seemed as if a tragedy could not be averted. Fortunately, Election night came in peace but the rumbling of the dissent created by the hard feelings perseveres.
That is why this Thanksgiving Week is the right time to call on everyone to push aside favoritisms and recognize what we always were: common people who came to this country in search of a better life.
Elections may come and go but we all have to live together and we will continue to support and help one another.
Have a very peaceful Thanksgiving Day in the company of loved ones!
