In the past, the Christmas season began one day after Thanksgiving, and the parade on that day in New York City, sponsored by Macy’s store, was the sign.
That changed a long time ago.
Now, long before that date, radio stations start playing carols and department stores begin to offer large discounts to the first to show up, thus motivating buyers.
All this, coordinated with a slight improvement in the economy, has filled department stores and some claim to have huge bargains.
Is not that we are against this; we just want to point out that we should not forget in our list the most needy.
There are families that will not have a Christmas dinner or a toy this year to offer their children unless we donate generously to organizations such as Neighbors in Need, Lazarus House, Salvation Army, waiting for our contribution to deliver them to the needy. Be generous with them.
On top of this need presented to us every year, we are now confronting the catastrophe in the Dominican Republic, specifically in the El Cibao area, due to the torrential rains that have devastated human lives, crops, cattle, farm animals, dwellings, bridges, leaving whole areas isolated with more than 8,000 people displaced and more than 20 affected aqueducts.
When the rains cease, the government has a gigantic task ahead that will take years to repair, but the people who are suffering today cannot wait and need our help now. It is our duty as humans to give them a hand. Let’s bring our contribution to 530 Broadway where a group of volunteers is waiting to get them.
Please give until it hurts!
