We see it every day, especially at community events massively helping others, especially those most in need: the use of volunteers.
Recently, the City of Lawrence carried out deliveries of food to thousands of people on the occasion of Thanksgiving Day.
First, there was Food for the World on Wednesday, November 19th which was documented in our November 22nd edition. In this edition we are giving coverage to the distribution of food made on Tuesday the 25th by Neighbors in Need. Overall, nearly 4,000 families received the right food to celebrate the occasion.
It is noteworthy that the effort is not only the day of delivery, but the days it takes to prepare for it and that both are nonprofit organizations that rely on charity for their support.
So it is with soup kitchens such as Bread and Roses, Cor Unum, Daybreak Shelter and Lazarus House, all depending on volunteers who selflessly give of their time to help others.
We welcome the participation of the seventh graders from the Community Day Charter Public School at this event. They facilitated the weakest and the elders in hauling the food to the outside of the local of distribution.
We can only congratulate the school administration for instilling that responsibility of helping others in the young participants at such a early age.
